Despite the worry about terrorists and the inconvenience of unfavorable exchange rates, Americans are hitting the road and vacationing abroad. There were 61.8 million Americans journeying out of the country last year. Here is the "10 Most Popular Countries" for Americans published in Travel and Leisure.
Mexico (19.3 million visitors)
Canada (15 millionp)
U.K. (3.69 million)
France (2.41 million)
Italy (1.92 million)
China (1.81 million)
Germany (1.75 million
Jamaica (1.26 million)
Japan (1.07 million)
Bahamas (1.01 million)
China shows the biggest increase on this list, which is interesting and not entirely surprising. Traffic to European destinations seems undeterred by the soaring exchange rate with the Euro. The Caribbean destinations on this list combined nets over two million visitors, or enough to rate in the top five.
